Layover in Frankfurt
If you happen to have a more than a 3 hour layover in Frankfurt you should definitely go for a walk in the center. It’s way better than sitting/sleeping on the airport!
Take the metro (U-Bahn) to the center. It should be only a half an hour trip. I got off at the Hauptwache stop. From there you can walk down the main pedestrian street and if you feel like shopping there are a lot of stores there. However, if you have the urge of exploring, take a right from the main street and if you continue straight you will reach Main River. You will have the options of walking along many bridges and observe the beauty of the nature and both sides of the city.
The love lockdown was very strong on the bridge I got on. For those who didn’t understand take a look at the picture. If you have time you can go across to the other side of Frankfurt. No pointers here because I haven’t had the time for that.
If you decide first to leave the river sight for later take right, left, right again and you will be lost for sure. So long now.
Of course not. You will wander through the city and I assure you there’s plenty to see.Like the beautiful Saint Bartholomew’s Cathedral. I especially loved the tiny door on the right side of the cathedral.
If you like crazy architecture you should go to Saalgasse street. I enjoyed the buildings there which aren’t really in my aesthetic but they are so fun to look at and to ask yourself several times who lives there and how come such a neighborhood exists in the first place. If you love books like we do you should definitely go into one of the many bookstores they have in Frankfurt, there are sales and you can find amazing books which are so cheap! Of course, you should make time for drink a tasty local beer and rest
If you still have time you can go across to the other side of Frankfurt. No pointers here because I haven’t had the time for that. I suspect you wouldn’t though unless you have like 10 hours stay in Frankfurt.
So next time you book a flight and there are only ones with long layovers make the best of it!
